So... maybe you want to hear about Backup from someone other than BioLite?
Meet Shane, Kyle, and Joanna.
Shane is a tech reviewer with years of experience across popular household devices.
Kyle is a dad who has built a career on making DIY home projects accessible and approachable.
Joanna lives in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest in a cabin she has renovated herself, documenting all the ups and downs.
Back in August, these three joined us at BioLite HQ for an in-depth look at Backup in action. We took each one on an individual tour of the lab, walked them through the test kitchen -- and then we left them alone.
We let them loose in the kitchen with a switcher break to simulate an outage, a drill if they wanted to install stuff, a fridge full of food, and cabinets full of appliances to run alongside the connected refrigerator.
Here's what they had to say:
Shane: For Folks Who Like Long Form Reviews (12 minute video)
- In-depth overview of Backup
- Plugs in multiple devices with high power requirements
- Compares Backup to power stations AND whole home solutions, both of which he has at his home and uses regularly
- Includes a brief interview with Ryan talking safety & performance
Kyle: For parents looking to keep kids fed and basics covered in an outage (1 minute video)
Joanna: For those who use – and hate – portable gas generators, but are concerned about longevity of product (1 minute video)
- Joanna experiences frequent outages at her home, including a ruined Christmas AND the night before she came to BioLite (really.)
- She has a gas generator and hates it: it's heavy, and the fumes and noise right outside her window drive her crazy. It's so unpleasant she's taken to just hunkering down during <48hr outages because it's not worth the setup hassle and grinding sound.
- Loves Backup but her (and her husband's) top question: how long does the product last lifespan-wise? The answer is 4,000 cycles > 80% which means you could fully discharge the unit every day from full for over 10 years with minimal degradation in performance.
- For Joanna, 10 years of reliable use multiplied by the number of fridges full of food saved = Backup Price (especially on Kickstarter) is made back many times over.
Who do you want to see test & review Backup?
As Backup moves into production phase when we wrap our campaign, we'll be setting aside a select number of samples for in-depth reviews. What outlets or reviewers would you like to see try Backup in their home? Let us know in the comments below.
