“I was an ambulance driver during the 51 day bombing of Gaza in the summer of 2014. I was shot just after getting my latest passengers to safety. I stayed in the hospital for 20 hours without any medical attention, because the staff needed to take care of more severely injured people first…the square next to the hospital itself had also been bombed. It was the worst and hardest 20 hours of my life. I work in the Neonatal ICU, but I’ve also joined the Gaza Community Mental Health Program because people are literally living in darkness and they need to feel safe again, they need hope. My niece and nephews I take care of 3 times a week, they’re all under 10 and have already lived through 3 wars. Since we get only 4-5 hours of electricity on a good day, getting these solar lights will mean the world to us.”
