Safety Tips for Running at Night

Running at night or in the early morning can be a great way to stay fit, avoid the heat, and enjoy some peace and quiet. However, it's important to take some extra precautions to stay safe and prevent injuries when putting in miles in the dark. For those planning on running at night, here are a few tips to consider:

  • Run with a friend or group. It’s safer - and more fun.
  • Wear reflective clothing and gear. Most running attire (shoes, hats, etc.) has some reflective material and Dash 450 has a rear light for visibility - night isn’t the time to be a ninja.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, especially on busy roads with traffic. Ditch the headphones and enjoy the sounds of you putting in work.
  • Avoid running in areas with heavy vegetation or brush. You know your trails best - consider ones with fewer roots, downed trees, or slippery mud.
  • Stay hydrated and carry water with you. A no-brainer, but listen to your body and stop if you're not feeling well.
  • Have fun. Running in the dark can be the ultimate running experience. The world can feel like it’s flying by and you (usually) have the path to yourself.
  • Light your route with a running-specific headlamp.
