Backup By BioLite created a new category of home power devices. It isn't a portable power station or a gas powered generator since it is designed to be instant and automatic in the event of an outage. The Backup Complete Configuration (Backup Core + Backup Extend)
The Backup system is comprised of two key components: Core and Extend. Backup Core and Backup Extend come together to form our 3 KWh flagship offering, Backup Complete.
Backup Core
- The brains of the system
- 1.5 KWh of storage
- (2) AC Ports to connect things like fridges, medical devices or anything that needs continuous power.
Backup Extend
- Must connect to Core
- 1.5 KWh expansion storage
- Connect up to 7 units for 10.5 KWh total
Because Backup stores energy, we’ve gathered a database of runtimes of what Backup Complete and Backup Core can run simultaneously on a single “full tank” of power. In short, Backup Complete can give you 30-60 hours or more of power for your fridge while simultaneously running:
- A microwave long enough for 3 meals
- 8 hours of lighting
- 5 phone charges
- 1 laptop charge
This is one of many potential scenarios you could choose to use Backup for. This configuration helps highlight what you might need to keep your family running for a 1-2 day outage: fresh food, lighting and communication.
You might be asking "Why the range? Can't you just give me a number?" The range accounts for the very wide variety of refrigerator configurations. Smaller, more efficient refrigerators will have a longer run time while larger refrigerators use more energy. The Backup App that comes free for iOS and Android, will give you precise, real time data on your current power backup expectations. The app can see the power draw from the devices you have plugged in and give you the hours and minutes of power you have remaining.

Looking for longer runtimes? You've got two options: Expansion and Solar.
You can add additional Backup Extend units for 1.5 KWh increments of additional storage up to 10.5 KWh. You can also pair Backup with high-capacity solar to generate power from the sun. Available as an accessory sold separately, the 400W Solar Panel and 30' Extension Cable can be used to provide limitless power to your Backup system. Up to (3) solar panels can be daisy-chained for a total output of 1200W, fully charging to Backup Complete Kit in under 3 hours.
